# Types of B2B sales enablement content (sorted by the question they answer)

Types of B2B sales enablement content, sorted by the question each one answers: proof, comparison, business case and objections. Plus what to build first.

*TL;DR*

B2B sales enablement content is any asset a salesperson uses to move a live deal forward. Proof, a comparison, a business case or an answer to an objection. Here's how these different types of enablement answer different types of buyer questions.

\*\*\*

Most lists of sales enablement content read like that really dull shopping list you take to Tesco on behalf of your nan every Sunday.

Case studies. Battlecards. One-pagers. Decks. Everything present. Nothing ranked. No mention of what any of it is really for (or why they need it).

So I've prepped this list to start with the question the buyer is asking when the deal gets stuck. Because that’s how a buyer looks for an answer, and it's how a salesperson scrambles for an asset halfway through a call.

Plus it's less dull than your nan's shopping list...

## What are the main types of B2B sales enablement content?

The main types are case studies, battlecards, comparison guides, ROI and business case content, executive summaries, objection FAQs, security and procurement packs, one-pagers and sales decks.

That’s the inventory. The useful bit is the job each one does. Which is here:

| Job | Types | The buyer’s question | Who asks it | Stage |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| **Proof** | Case studies, reference calls | Has anyone like us done this? | Champion, economic buyer | Mid to late |
| **Comparison** | Battlecards, comparison guides | Why you and not them? | Evaluator | Mid |
| **Business case** | ROI content, executive summaries | How do I justify this internally? | CFO, champion | Late |
| **Objections** | Objection FAQs, security and procurement packs | What could go wrong? | IT, legal, procurement | Mid to late |
| **Orientation** | Decks, one-pagers | What is this and who is it for? | Anyone new to the deal | Early |

Those are the five jobs. [Getting sales to use any of it](https://b2bcopywriter.uk/blog/why-b2b-sales-enablement-content-doesnt-get-used) is a separate, slightly more depressing question.

## Which type of sales enablement content answers which buyer question?

### Proof: “Has anyone like us done this?”

Case studies and reference calls. The good ones feature a customer who looks like your next buyer, has the same problem and gives an honest account of implementation, with a clear before and after The weak ones are just a vendor’s victory lap, ending in an approved quote that nobody in their right mind would ever consider saying out loud or IRL.

### Comparison: “Why you and not them?”

Battlecards (internal, for reps) and comparison guides (external, for buyers). A good one fits on a page, stays current and stems exclusively from what reps hear on real calls. A weak one is a feature grid where, magically and somewhat suspiciously, your product keeps coming at the top.

### Business case: “How do I justify this internally?”

ROI content and executive summaries, written for the person who has to carry the argument into a room you won’t be in or the phone call you won't make. A good one lets your buying champion copypasta the numbers straight into their internal document. A weak one promises “significant savings, bruv” without ever really explaining how.

### Objections: “What could go wrong?”

Objection FAQs, security packs, procurement packs and implementation overviews. These are the least sexy of all the assets. They're also quite often the ones BDRs use to save a deal. Build these assets from the last three questions your reps couldn’t answer (and save yourself yet another content brainstorm).

### Orientation: “What is this and who is it for?”

Decks and one-pagers, for early conversations and for the person who wasn’t in the meeting. A good deck works without the presenter. A weak one needs a talented salesperson standing beside it, providing live translation.

## What happens when the rep isn’t in the room?

Most of the buying group will never meet your rep. They’ll meet a forwarded email, a link or a PDF. Your champion then has to retell your story to people you’ve never spoken to, usually while doing their proper job at the same time.

So give them something built to survive the forward. The problem. The outcome. The proof. The next step. Written in your buyer’s language and short enough that somebody might read it.

If your champion can’t explain the deal in a paragraph, they’ll pass on a smaller, shitter version of it.

## What sales enablement content should a lean marketing team build first?

Not 18 templates and a portal nobody opens. Four assets, in this order:

1. One case study for your best-fit customer
2. One battlecard for the competitor that comes up most
3. One objection one-pager, built from the last three questions reps couldn’t answer
4. One champion summary

Ask three reps where deals keep getting stuck. It takes ten minutes and should happen before any of you opens Figma.

## Why do sales enablement assets contradict each other?

Because each one was written from a different version of the story. This isn’t an edge case, either. [Gartner found that 69% of B2B buyers encountered inconsistencies between a supplier’s website and its salespeople.](https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom/press-releases/2025-06-25-gartner-sales-survey-finds-61-percent-of-b2b-buyers-prefer-a-rep-free-buying-experience?utm_source=chatgpt.com)

The deck says one thing, the case study another and the battlecard has wandered off in a third direction via a ditch on an M25 sliproad. Buyers notice this stuff, usually when they compare notes internally.

The fix sits upstream of any individual asset: one shared narrative that everything draws from. Without it, you get [messaging drift](https://b2bcopywriter.uk/messaging-drift?utm_source=chatgpt.com). Sales patches the gaps for the next call, then eventually [starts telling its own version of the story](https://b2bcopywriter.uk/sales-enablement).

And *nobody* wants that.

## Frequently asked questions

### **What are the types of B2B sales enablement content?**

The main types are case studies, battlecards, comparison guides, ROI and business case content, objection FAQs, security and procurement packs, one-pagers and sales decks. They can be grouped by the question each answers: proof, comparison, business case, objections and orientation.

### **What is the difference between internal and external sales enablement content**

Internal content is for reps and includes battlecards, playbooks and objection guides. External content goes to buyers and includes case studies, one-pagers and ROI content. Most deals need both.

### **How many types of sales enablement content does a small team need?**

Fewer than you have. Start with four: a case study, a battlecard, an objection one-pager and a champion summary.

### **How do you match sales enablement content to a buying committee?**

Start with the question each person asks. The CFO wants a business case, IT wants a security pack, the day-to-day user wants proof it works for people like them, and the champion wants something they can forward.

### **What should marketing build first for sales?**

Whatever answers the question reps are failing to answer today. Ask them, then build that.
